Moving my stuff!     This has been a real adventure here at Fabric Follies.  Never in my 50+ years did I ever dream that a little fun on a daily basis would bring over 1000 hits a day and some lovely email friends!  This year began early on with surgery and later on with placement of a heart stint, so a heartfelt “Thanks!”  goes out to all my online friends who have made the year so enjoyable in spite of it all.

I have a new site up called Fabric Follies Two…     Fabric Follies will remain up since I use the links to find projects to plan and to do, and I’m sure others use them too.  Come on over and say hello.  Know that you are always welcome!

Making Your Own “Duct Tape Double” December 13, 2006

I have yet to find anyone I would trust enough to wrap me up completely in duct tape!  grin  But I will keep looking and at some point will have my own double that I can fit my patterns to without the pin pricks of trying to fit it on myself.

Crazy Chole Black of Slightly Obsessed  has posted the most wonderful tutorial showing photos of her mother actually wrapping her in duct tape.. then how to add the shoulders to your double using a wooden clothes hanger and shoulder pads.  I found this wonderfully informative and one of the most complete online studies in making your own sewing double.  Have a look….

My little bird looking out the window!   In my wandering through the world of crafts yesterday morning, I came across this cute little bird on Cameoroze.com with a link leading back to a German site that showed the instructions for making it.  Well… before breakfast I had cut a bit of felt and was handsewing in front of my pc… DH was just shaking his head..grin  Even with handsewing, it only took about 20 minutes to put this little cutie together.

I knew I had seen this tiny bird done up in crazy quilting…so when I did a search this morning I found it here  (click on the arrow to the right at the top of the page… the birds will come up) in CQ Magazine Online’s Reader’s Showcase Volume 3 Issue 4.  These were done by Jan Ede and I fell in love with them the first time I saw them.  Just goes to show that with crafting, all things can be done just as fancy as a person wants… Have a look…

CQ Block   I always thought I knew how to fold and store my quilts… until today.  Whip Up has a tutorial up showing how to fold quilts on the bias to protect them from the heavy wear of constantly being folded in half…then quartered… who knew?  Have a look…

Hello Eliza… I have not forgotten your comment…grin  I found this pattern on the Sew Simple website and I think it may be just the thing.  It may be a little confusing to work with since the pattern pieces are actually downloadable and printable…meaning they will have to be taped together after printing on 8 1/2 x 11 “  paper.  But the pattern is free and sizeable… I hope this works for you… Have a look…

SewYoungSewFun.com Fleecy Wrist Warmers

Thanks to a lovely visitor that left me a note, I’m sorry to find that this site is no longer in existance.

These Fleecy Wrist Warmers are very quickly made and would make an easy first project for teens wanting to learn to sew.  On this same page are instructions showing the basics of knitting and how to knit a colorful headband.  I may not be a teen anymore, but I fell head over heels for some these colorful, feel good, easy to make projects.  Sew Young, Sew Fun  is the web site for the television series of the same name… set up as “the first how-to series for young people by young people” and features over 600 free projects.  These placemats are fun, as are these embellished scarves that would be a great match for the wrist warmers…hmmm
Have a look….

Long, long ago in a land far away…. I made these caps for my children’s father to wear to work.  They are very simple to make, fun and I can see them all embellished or made into one of a kind personal style.  curiously crafty.com is one of those blogs that you will want to spend an hour or so just looking around.  The tutorial for these hats is very precise and has all the pattern pieces you will need (you will need Adobe Reader… they are in pdf. format)

There is also a tutorial on bookbinding…. as in make your own journal or book…. It is very nicely done… have a look…

I’m not sure how I came across this site, but it went immediately into favorites.  A very talented young mom of two, her imaginative recycling of fabrics into everything from baby shoes (that are reversible no less!) to shoulder bags makes you want to just reach out and grab one…grin  The tutorial for making this shoulder bag is great and will be next on my list of things to do. These knitted fingerless gloves are also on the list.  Do drop over and have a look….

I do love houseshoes.  Several years ago (as in many!) a young lady of about 82 years was kind enough to draw off a pattern that she had used for most of her life to make shoes for her family.  I loved it. Simple, easy to make, quick… I used it many times.  When it disappeared I searched high and low… but moving takes it’s toll on our possessions and I never found the pattern.  Well, this one is not exactly it… but it is as close as I have found.

JoAnn’s has many free patterns up that are wonderful.  This bed caddy is one that is tops on my list.  Love these Blossom Pots T-Shirts! These Suede Leg Warmers would be wonderful for those in the north where the winters are much colder than here in Texas. And this Car Organizer is a must for me to make for the grandsons!

For the whole looonnngg list of free projects, go here.  Have a look…

Angry Chicken.com has been one of my favorite sites for a long time.  Amy Karol is one of the most talented ladies online.  She hosts  the tie one on challenge for making one apron a month using the  theme for that month.  Now here’s the story:

I have two wonderful Tee Shirts that actually fit right and feel right and are without a doubt my favorite shirts.  So what do I do… wear them all the time… and in the process of painting my latest eggs I have managed to get a paint smear on one and drip mustard on the other.  Not happy.  Until today.

Amy has had a tutorial up for a while on making stecils using freezer paper.  I have just re-found it and now I have the solution to my problem.  I can stencil something to cover the spots.. Just thought I would pass it on… Have a look…
