American Needlepoint Guild (free tutorials and patterns)

I have been following Julia’s stitching details of the beautiful kimono block that she has been posting on her blog Camille’s Place last week.  If you haven’t seen it, have a look.

When I saw this design called Dragonfly and Fireflies Kimono designed by Sharon G. on the American Needlepoint Guild site, I was struck by the comparison of the two and had to have a closer look.  The stitches used in the needlepoint kimono are some of the Stitch of the Month stitches that the guild has up on their tutorial site. Not only is the kimono itself lovely, but any part of it could be used separately… the firefly, the dragonfly, the river, the fans… I can see them on crazy quilts, tiny squares put together to form a larger block for a pillow… many uses… even as a beaded form on a small purse.
