Crocheted Purse…Free Pattern

Yarn:  Red Heart Acrylic Worsted 4 ply

Color:  Aran Flock

Hook:  Boye size 8/5.00mm

The following stitches will be used in this pattern:

The beginning double crochet cluster stitch to be used through out the pattern (beg dc cl):

beg dc cl:  ch2, dc twice holding last loop on hook .  There should be 4 loops on hook.  Yarn over and draw through all loops on hook, ch 1 to hold cluster together.  (This ch 1 is considered as part of the beg dc cl and should not be counted in the following chain stitches.)  Beg dc cl made.

The double crochet cluster stitch (dc cl):

dc 3 times, holding last loop on hook.  There should be 4 loops on hook.  Yarn over and pull through all loops on hook, ch 1 to hold cluster together. (This ch 1 is considered part of the cluster stitch and should not be counted in the following chain stitches.)  Double crochet cluster (dc cl)made.

The beginning treble crochet cluster (trc cl): 

Ch3, treble crochet 2 times holding last loop of ch 3 and each trc stitch on hook. There should be 4 loops on hook.  Yarn over and draw through all 4 loops on hook. ch 1 to hold stitch. (This ch 1 is considered part of the trc cl and is not to be counted in the following stitch count.)  Beginning treble crochet cluster (beg trc cl) made.

The treble crochet cluster stitch (trc cl): 

Treble crochet 3 times in same stitch, holding last loop of all 3 trebles on hook. There should be 4 loops on hook.  Yarn over and draw through all loops on hook. Ch 1. (This ch 1 is considered part of the treble crochet cluster stitch and is not be counted in the following chain stitches.)  Treble crochet cluster (trc cl) is made.

Pattern: Front of purse.

Ch 4, join with sl st to 1st ch to form ring.

Row 1:  beg dc cl, (ch2, cluster) 4 times, ch2  join with sl st to top of beg dc cl. (5 dc cl)

Row 2: sl st into ch 2 space.  beg dc cl, (ch 2, dc cl) 2 times in same ch 2 space. (ch 2, dc cl) 3 times in each ch2 space around, ch 2 and join with sl st to beg dc cl.  (15 dc cl)

Row 3:  sl st into next ch 2 sp, (beg trc cl, ch 2, trc cl) in same ch2 sp, *(ch 2, trc cl, ch2, trc cl) in next ch 2 sp*, repeat * to * 5 times.  There should be 14 trc cl made. ch 3, skip next ch 2 sp, (sc in next ch 2 sp, ch3) 6 times.  Join with sl st to top of beg trc cl.

Row 4: sl st into next ch 2 sp, (beg trc cl, ch 2, trc cl, ch 2) in same ch 2 sp, *trc cl in next ch 2 sp, *(ch 2, trc cl, ch 2, tr cl in next ch 2 sp)* Repeat from * to * 6 times, *(ch3, sc in next ch3 sp)* Repeat from * to * 3 times, ch3, join with sl st to top of beg trc cl.

Row 5: ch 4, sc in next ch 2 sp, (ch 3, sc in next ch 2 sp) 20 times, ch 4, turn.

Row 6: (sc in next ch 3 sp, ch 3) 20 times, ch 4, turn.

Row 7: (sc in next ch 3 sp, ch3) 21 times, fasten off. 

Repeat pattern for back of purse. Do not fasten off at end of Row 7.

Joining front to back:

Row 8: With wrong sides together and keeping yarn behind the hook, ch 2, sc in 1st ch 3 sp of front, ch 2, sc in matching ch 3 sp of back. Continue in this pattern 20 times.  

Row 9: ch 1, sc evenly around top of purse, fasten off.

Handle:  

Attach yarn to sc above top cluster. (See photo above)

Row 1:  (sc in next sc) 13 times, ch 1, turn

Row 2 to 4:  (sc in next sc) 13 times, ch1, turn

Row 5:  sl st in next sc, (sc in next sc) 11 times, sl st in last sc, ch 1, turn

Row 6:  sl st in 1st sc, (sc in next sc( 9 times, sl st in last sc, ch 1, turn

Row 7: sl st in 1st sc, (sc in next sc) 7 times, sl st in last sc, ch 1, turn

Row 8: sl st in 1st sc, (sc in next sc) 5 times, sl st in last sc, ch 1, turn

Row 9: sl st in 1st sc, (sc in next sc) 3 times, sl in last sc, ch1, turn

Row 10: sc in slt st and in each sc across, ch 1, turn (5 sc across)

Row 11-22: sc in each sc across, ch1, turn.

(This row can be repeated for a longer lenth strap if desired)

Fasten off.

Repeat for other side of bag handle until end of Row 22. Do not fasten off.

Row 23: Joining the two halves of the strap: sc in 1st sc of 1st half of strap, sc in 2nd st of 2nd half of strap. Continue working sc in matching sc of each half of strap to end of row. Fasten off.

Attach thread at beginning of handle on either side. Work sc evenly across outer edge of handle. Fasten off.  Attach thread to beginning of handle on other side, work sc evenly across out edge of handle. Fasten off.

Weave in all loose threads.

Lining can be made of whatever fabric you would like.
